Doctoral School : 2026 Call for applications

The 2026 competition for Doctoral School 583 “Risks and Society” is now open. Two doctoral fellowships funded by Nîmes University will be awarded during the 2026 autumn recruitment campaign. One fellowship is intended to support fundamental research, while the second is dedicated to projects with a strong international dimension. Applications must be submitted no later than Tuesday, 30 June 2026.

Two fellowships, two themes

One of the two fellowship emphasises the need to support “fundamental” research, i.e. research capable of advancing the theoretical contributions of the discipline concerned, whilst shedding light on and providing tools for the “risks and society” field.

The second fellowship is designed to strengthen the international profile of Doctoral School ED583 through the recruitment of an international doctoral candidate who has completed their previous academic training outside France.

The initiative also seeks to foster long-term partnerships with overseas universities, following the successful collaboration established between ED583 and Sapienza University of Rome.

Application procedure

The call for applications is published on the ADUM platform (adum.fr). Candidates must submit their application electronically via ADUM by Tuesday, 30 June 2026.

The application file must include :

  • a letter of support from a faculty member or researcher;
  • academic transcripts, including Semester 3 results;
  • an analytical curriculum vitae;
  • a cover letter outlining the candidate's alignment with the selected fellowship (either fundamental research or international research);
  • the Master's dissertation or other research work, if requested by the selection committee.

Eligible applicants will be invited to an oral interview during which they will present their critical reflection on one of the proposed research topics, including its bibliography, current state of the art, and relevance to the selected research theme. Interviews will take place between 6 and 10 July 2026.

The selection committee will include, at a minimum the Directors of the Research Units (UPRs); the Director and Deputy Director of Doctoral School ED583 and the Vice-President for Research at Nîmes University. Additional experts may be appointed depending on the disciplinary scope and scientific requirements of the fellowship concerned.

Following the interviews, candidates will be ranked according to the evaluation results. The final ranking will be published on the Doctoral School ED583 Risks and Society website on Monday, 13 July 2026.
